Well it’s been awhile…
I was waiting for Spring – I thought it had arrived. I turned over my wardrobe, packed away those winter coats, boots and broke out the Spring attire just in time to be completely fooled.
Wisconsin weather – 1, Me – 0.
Wishful thinking on my part. So as I sit here today watching people in the rainy cold, wrapped up in fleece and scarves and closed-toed shoes (you know I hate them) my patience is wearing thin. I don’t like in between weather – it can get really complicated for dressing. I mean, we are all Spring at Flaire and I am obviously in the Spring mindset so clearly wearing my Spring attire is at the top of my list, but when it’s too cold for flowy lightweight dresses and too warm for sweaters – what’s a girl to do?
The shop girls and I have sworn off heavy knit sweaters, tights and closed toed shoes so in an effort to showcase some Spring wears while dealing with an uncooperative climate, I am topping off my jeans with bright hues, delicate florals and animal prints. Keeping me in the Spring mindset, yet not freezing my arse off!
Animal prints are back in action for Spring/Summer in lightweight cotton silhouettes that compliment any jean like Torn by Ronny Kobo’s Lynna tunic. Or LAMB’s great leopard tunic over your favorite mini. Or the Brooke Top that pairs perfect with leggings. Get on the hunt.
Florals are everywhere and why not – what says Spring better than flowers?! Small delicate combinations or bold vibrant clusters – whatever your favorite flower is, there is an option for you. Breezy bohemian tunics from Nicole Richie’s Winter Kate line, Easy swing tops from Torn by Ronny Kobo or the ever popular BB Dakota line has a plethora of styles to choose from.
With Spring comes color and brights are always big. Patterns, Solids, Prints – you can find them anywhere. My favorite is BB Dakota’s feather tank – but if you prefer solids, Fifteen-Twenty creates some beautiful styles in a variety of bright vivid colors. Guys can do color too! Canterbury of New Zealand always does great plaid shirts and Just A Cheap Shirt (new and now in stock) – they do color right. If you want a certain shade, they have a shirt with it! Stand out this Spring!
Stop in soon and find something to top off your look.

When I was younger the first thing I remember wanting to be when I grew up was a rock star. I had this great pink skirt (which today would be the perfect mini) that I wore to death. It was perfect with a little rocker tee and layers of accessories. I looked the rocker chic part, but then I realized I had no talent in the vocal department! So, much to my dismay I began to shift my thinking.

Since I loved clothing and jewelry and all things fashion (here is some evidence of my early jewelry obsession), why not be a fashion designer?!?! At the time it sounded so glamorous and perfect so I whipped out my sketch book and went to work. Shortly, another realization took place – I couldn’t draw (and that so remains true). It was really hard to put the beautiful chiffon, sequined and fabric draped visions in my head on paper and if I did manage to move my pencil in the right motion to display what was happening in my imagination, it still didn’t look like much on a stick person!
Over the years I never lost my love of fashion and of course as I got older I realized there are other ways to get your ideas on paper. So as I approached the point in my life where it was time to decide what I was going to use my degree for, my desire to be in the industry of fashion resurfaced. I mean, throughout college I worked in retail, so I guess I never really left it, but when it came time that I might actually have to – I panicked. I couldn’t let go.
I always really enjoyed working with people and creating looks from a variety of pieces – it’s really what excites me about fashion – the ability to utilize the items you love most in hundreds of different ways. The styling aspect of retail is always the most fun and there are many people who really have an eye for what works. It’s risky though – the industry of fashion – and that’s what gave me the idea for Milwaukee’s Style Trial. A no-risk opportunity for those individuals with a love for fashion and styling to test their skills.
It’s a four week competition where 7 will get the chance to compete for styling opportunities with M Magazine, The Institute of Beauty and Wellness and Flaire Boutique (obviously). There’s more though – an overnight stay in the Presidential Suite at the InterContinental Hotel, dinner for two at Kilawat and a VIP Party at Decibel Nightclub . . . a nice little prize package and a chance to utilize your fashion know-how.
So if you love fashion and you view each opportunity to dress yourself (or friends/family) as a chance to express yourself OR maybe just because it sounds fun – visit the homepage of our website, check out the rules and get your application in. We are extending the deadline – so you have until Friday morning to get them in.
When else do you get the chance to try out something new without all the risk?? Apply today!

In case you missed Friday’s episode of the Morning Blend – take a look at some of Flaire’s fall styles as Monica from the Institute of Beauty and Wellness tells you what’s hot in hair this fall.

Since this time I have owned and obsessed over many handbags from my first metallic Lauren Merkin (the first big bag I ever bought myself) to my feather adorned Leopard bag (it has feathers – of course I had to have it) and my vegan Matt & Nat faux leather tote (five years later and still looks like new) not forgetting my first Marc Jacobs bag (that I scoured the Internet for because it sold out immediately from almost every website I frequented) to my most recent the Fall 2009 Kooba Alex Studded Tote. While all of Kooba’s bags are ridiculously gorgeous the Alex stole my heart. It is with the same passion for that tiny sequined bag of Grandma’s that I announce Kooba has finally arrived and especially the beautifully crafted, soft leather Alex Tote.
We have limited quantities available – so if your obsession is as strong as mine – check them out soon.

Many of us fashion savvy individuals really put effort into our looks. We make sure the clothes are right, the shoes are killer and the accessories are bold. When I was asked to have Flaire participate in the Refashion for Life charity fashion show (which combines fashion for you and your home) – it made me start to evaluate my living space. I mean the effort I put into my own look should also be reflected in my home – right? I never really thought about it before, but recently I have been putting extra effort into making my living space reflect the fashion savvy-ness that I strive for in my personal look.
The Refashion for Life charity fashion show takes place tomorrow night at the Callen Construction Showroom in Muskego. Come check out some of the best fashion for yourself and your home. Plus, it not only benefits you but those at the Elena’s House – so get your tickets!
