The End of Summer?

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

It was here at one point – I think . . .Summer that is. It’s not that we here in Milwaukee can actually say we had a good Summer this year – I mean, sure it was nice, we had some nice days – but for me, I demand more of Summer. It’s my favorite season - easy cotton dresses, floor-length maxis, comfy decorated flat sandals, paper-thin relaxed fit tops, cute distressed denim shorts – what’s not to love? So when it comes to Summer, I demand the opportunity to wear these said pieces for at least three months and this Summer left me wanting more. So as not to pay Summer the attention it does not deserve I am moving right forward to Fall.

Probably my second favorite season, Fall never seems to let me down. The extra thick magazine issues with hundreds of pages of the latest and greatest, the ability to sport my most beloved trench coat (obviously not warm enough for Milwaukee winters), and the excitement that comes with turning over my wardrobe. (I know, I know, they say you should only have one and make it work year round, but I live in Milwaukee and therefore, I need more than those lucky individuals in warmer climates (P.S. Kathy, that “lucky” was dripping with sarcasm, just for you.))

This Fall I am especially impressed. It’s one of those seasons that is repeating trends – and right now, I don’t think that is such a bad thing. Plaids, Distressed Denim, One Shoulder Silhouettes, Military-Inspired Pieces – all are revived for this season. So if you didn’t do it last year, you still can. Some of the new additions – Over the Knee Boots, (seriously it will not be possible for me to make it through Fall without a pair), Fur Vests, Zipper Details and Studded Everything – Jackets, Bags, Jewelry. It’s all in the details this Fall and that deserves some attention.

Another reason I am looking forward to the next couple months – new deliveries! It was just after Christmas that I began placing Fall orders and over time you can tend to forget everything you bought – with the exception of Left on Houston. I remember every detail of each piece ordered and have been anticipating this arrival for months. Here’s a little preview of what’s on the way.

The Onset of Obsession

Friday, August 7th, 2009
I think my obsession with handbags began a long time ago when my Grandmother let me borrow her small sequined clutch to play dress up. How I loved this bag – not only because it was ostentatious, but because it will remain a memory of Grandma. On the sunny afternoons Grandma looked after me, this beautifully detailed bag sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight. The hand beading and the shimmering lining, the metal clasp - all of it had me completely enamored.  Instantly this bag glamorized everything I did from blowing bubbles to eating lunch on the picnic table. For years this bag accompanied me to the ball, on my dates, and to every exciting event my imagination could create. In the end I had taken this bag on so many adventures that the last I remember of it the beading had started to wear and the shimmering lining had tears from all my “necessities” it contained – because you have so many necessities at a young age.  Never though did the sparkle fade and this, I believe, is what secured my obsession.

Since this time I have owned and obsessed over many handbags from my first metallic Lauren Merkin (the first big bag I ever bought myself) to my feather adorned Leopard bag (it has feathers – of course I had to have it) and my vegan Matt & Nat faux leather tote (five years later and still looks like new) not forgetting my first Marc Jacobs bag (that I scoured the Internet for because it sold out immediately from almost every website I frequented) to my most recent the Fall 2009 Kooba Alex Studded Tote. While all of Kooba’s bags are ridiculously gorgeous the Alex stole my heart. It is with the same passion for that tiny sequined bag of Grandma’s that I announce Kooba has finally arrived and especially the beautifully crafted, soft leather Alex Tote.

We have limited quantities available – so if your obsession is as strong as mine – check them out soon.
